Day two - a 5-6 hour tramp (3 hours option)
Departure on day 2 is right from your lodge. At first you climb steadily out of the Ngahape valley through mature pine forest which is really quite special. It’s the closest thing to the Black Forest of Europe. Birds and most interesting fungi abound.
Now you have reached the Tatham’s farm - another pioneering family in its 4th generation. You begin to circumnavigate the farm taking in the panoramic views of the Wairarapa coastline, the coastal hills and the Tararua ranges. You pass through varied vegetation: areas of regenerating native bush, scrubland and pristine farmland. Having completed the loop you return through the ‘Black forest’ to a well deserved cup of tea and home baking.
The Kaiwhata River meanders through our 16 ha property and you
are welcome to cool off in the water-holes and stroll amongst
some beautiful specimen native trees.
